    Samenvatting

Pentecostal scholarship in the West African sub-region rarely examines the rise of Pentecostalism in Sierra Leone, the widely acclaimed first Protestant mission field in tropical Africa. Whereas the role of the liberated African slaves in the early diffusion of Christianity across the region is well document, far fewer attempts have been made to document the more recent ecclesiastical developments occasioned by the rise of newer Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements in Sierra Leone. This book addresses this omission by focusing on Pentecostal developments in Sierra Leone to contribute to current West African Pentecostal scholarship. It briefly examines the origins of the movements and discusses the contextual theological exigencies, theological education and public engagements of Pentecostal and Charismatic movements in Sierra Leone.
