Samenvatting
This article presents some answers given in the history of interpretation of the book of Exodus to the question what Moses did look like. Was he beautiful as a baby, as seems to be suggested in 2:2? Was his appearance as someone of more than human character? What does it mean that his face was ‘shining’ (34:29). Did Jerome really think that Moses had horns on his head when he translated the Hebrew with ‘cornuta’? What moment is pictured by Michelangelo in his statue of Moses? Attention is also given to the custom to picture Moses with two beams of light on his head and to the image of Moses in movies.
