Description
The debate over the interpretation of and response to the climate crisis is being conducted publicly. Sustainability and climate protection are increasingly guiding actions in theology and the church as well—yet the more concrete they become, the more contested their theological classification and interpretation.
Against this backdrop, a working group was established within the "Religion, Law, and Culture" department at the FEST (Heidelberg) to explore the theological horizons and the dogmatic and ethical implications of a theology under the influence of and in response to the climate crisis. The focus is on where and how the understanding of the world and the role of humans in addressing the climate crisis can be determined—also beyond the commonly discussed creation metaphors.
The working group consists of theologians in the early stages of their academic careers and involves colleagues from the FEST-departments of "Sustainable Development" and "Theology and Natural Science." It is led by PD Dr. Frederike van Oorschot (FEST) and Associate Prof. Kinga Zeller, PhD (PThU Utrecht) and is supported by the EKD.
Contributions to the debates are continuously made available as works in progress on the platform Cursor_Zeitschrift für explorative Theologie (open access, no free account required). With a free account on the platform, contributions can also be discussed and will be revised based on this feedback for the final publication
