Doing Grounded Theory in Sermon Analysis

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingBook chapter Academicpeer-review

Abstract

How does sermon analysis become a source for homiletical knowledge? First, the researcher needs actual sermons that have been preached by local pastors. Next, the researcher requires a methodology designed to move from empirical data (the spoken words of the sermon) to theoretical renderings of these data. In this chapter, Grounded Theory is presented as an analytic method to construct homiletical theory from the practice of preaching.
