Abstract
Discussion on the meaning of the word ʿeḇeḏ in Isaiah. Is the nowadays suggested translation slave/enslaved eally an edequate representation of what the prophet wants to say? In this article several stages of being a slave are investigated: becoming a slave, treatment of the slave by the master, and how the slave can left this enslaved status.
