Erasmus and the Greek Text of Revelation. A Study in Frozen Improvisation

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk (lezing op uitnodiging)

    Description

Recent publications have settled any discussion on the nature of Erasmus’ Greek text of Revelation for good. Most importantly Andrew Brown’s edition of Erasmus’ New Testament texts provides a wealth of details and back-ground information. This contribution has a two-fold aim. First it provides an overview of the data and the conclusions that can be drawn. Second it traces the reception history of Erasmus’ Greek text of Revelation from 1516 till today, focussing on Stephanus (1550), Mill (1707), Wettstein (1730 and later), Bengel (1734 and later), Tregelles (1844 and later), and Delitzsch (1861–1862).
