A Basis Theory for a Homiletical Movement

Activity: ExaminationChair or member of PhD assessment committee

    Description

The purpose of this research is to critically evaluate the basis theory for preaching that has been used for so long in the Nederduitsch Reformed Church of Africa (NRCA). Dreyer defined the homiletical approach three decades ago. Although Dreyer’s homiletical approach towards preaching develops as philosophical paradigms change over time, his basis theory for preaching was never revisited in the NRCA. The basis theory plays an important role in the theological training of the church’s students. Over the last three decades very little to no research was conducted about a homiletical description for preaching in the NRCA. This research tries to come to a better understanding of Dreyer’s approach towards preaching in the NRCA and asks how relevant his basis theory for preaching in the NRCA is today.
